A country-led initiative in support of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) entitled the "International Expert Meeting on Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting on the Progress toward Sustainable Forest Management"Ioch was held in Yokohama, Japan from 5 to 8 November 2001. The Meeting was hosted by Japan and co-sponsored by Australia, Brazil, Ghana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Norway and United States of America.

The meeting focused on monitoring, assessment and reporting (MAR) on the progress towards sustainable forest management. Experts from 31 countries, 9 international organizations and regional processes, and 4 international NGOs participated in the meeting. The report from the meeting was submitted to the United Nations for contribution to the discussion at the second session of the UNFF.
