“TICAD 6 Special Event on the promotion of sustainable forest management in Africa”

"Special Event on the promotion of sustainable forest management in Africa in connection with TICAD 6" was held from 25 to 26 August 2016 at the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) in Nairobi (Kenya) which was attended by approximately 150 people including Mr. Katsuo Yakura, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan as well as 5 ministers and vice-ministers from African countries responsible for forestry. The special event was co-organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), EverGreen Agriculture Partnership, wPower HUB as well as Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS). Participants discussed with a focus on "The Future of Wood-Based Energy" on the 25th and "Forest & Landscape Restoration for Food Security and Resilience to Climate Change" on the 26th. As the outcome, "Message from the Ministers Responsible for Forestry to TICAD 6 on the Promotion of Sustainable Forest Management in Africa" was adopted.

Venue: World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), Nailobi, Kenya

2.Participants

Approximately 150 people including government officials (9 countries), international organizations (ITTO, FAO, IRNEA, etc.), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), research institutes, private sector and NGOs. Ministerial and vice-ministerial level participants included Kenya, Ethopia, Ghana, Marawi and Senegal and Japan.
