International seminar "Soils as the foundation for resilient forests in a changing environment-viewed through the lens of Criteria and Indicators-"

Forestry Agency organized International Seminar "Soils as the foundation for resilient forests in a changing environment-viewed through the lens of Criteria and Indicators-" on 29 January 2015 at Mita Kyoyo Kaigisho.

More than 100 people from government, international organization, research institute, private sector, University, including the Montreal Process Technical Advisory Committee members from ten countries

3.Intent

UN General Assembly declared 2015 the International Year of Soils (IYS).The importance of risk reduction/mitigation function of forests against natural disasters is recognized well in Japan. Resilience of forests against natural disasters is primarily fulfilled through conservation of soils in forests.

The seminar is organized as a kick-off event  of  2015 IYS in Japan, the panel discussion is conducted following the expert's presentations such as mechanism of soils and other functions of forests, the new monitoring methodologies as well as measures to improve functions of soils and associated output.
